Inspired by the new book "Dance Halls and Last Calls" by Singer-Songwriter Geronimo Treviño III, Media Cottage is currently in production on a new documentary of the same title. Scheduled for completion over the next ten months, the premiere of the film is planned for the summer of 2003.

Directed by emmy award winner Robert Currie, the film explores the significant social and cultural heritage that has evolved through and around the Texas Dance Hall. As the social nucleus of many communities – whether serving as the gathering place for a Wedding, Sunday Social, or Town Meeting – the dance hall also provided the venue that nurtured the bands and performers that have influenced the musical style and taste of our entire nation. Everything that is Country Music has influence from Texas Dance Halls.

To quote Geronimo (from the introduction in his book):
"They have always caught your attention as you traveled the roads of small rural Texas towns, whether on vacation or just out for a Sunday drive. They take on a different look when the Texas sun turns its light on them. There are fond memories of growing up visiting the "shrines" with family and recalling one's first dance steps. They are a big part of Texas culture and Texas history – they are the dance halls of the Lone Star State."
Told through the words and songs of performers, and the reflections and recollections of loyal fans and dance hall devotees, the film recalls and nurtures the future of these icons of Texas culture.

Footage and photographs already acquired for the film have been shot in such notable locations as Fischer Hall, Anhalt, Bandera's Cabaret and Austin's Broken Spoke. Future shoots will highlight many other famous dance halls and some of Country Music's most outstanding performers.

Media Cottage is working in association with the New Braunfels Museum of Art and Music in the production of this film, portions of which will be utilized in an upcoming exhibit also named and themed after Geronimo's book. Additionally, the exhibition will feature the spectacular paintings of Gail Wendorf from her series "Waltz Across Texas".

Geronimo's book is a must read and may be purchased from your favorite bookstore or ordered on-line from Republic of Texas Press or Barnes & Noble.
